How do you match factory privacy glass on the front windows?

Short answer

There are two ways to match. A math match picks the film so the percentages combine to match the rear glass. A visual match picks the film that looks the same. They can differ because the front of the car gets extra light through the windshield, so a front window can look lighter even when the math matches. Washington's limit for front side windows is 24%.

What is factory privacy glass?

Many SUVs, trucks and vans come with darker rear glass from the factory. The front side windows are usually clear, which leaves the car looking two-toned. Tinting the front two windows evens that out.

Why can a math match look lighter?

The front of the car gets extra light through the windshield. That light brightens the front of the cabin, so a front window can look lighter than the rear glass even when the numbers match.

Does the 24% rule still apply?

Yes. Washington law sets the limit for front side windows at 24% visible light transmission, whatever the match. See How dark can you legally tint your windows in Washington?
